The town of Santa Ana is located to the west of San Jose, just a 45 minute drive from the capital. You first pass Escazu and head up to the "Alto de las Palomas" which is the summit of the montains that separate Escazu from Santa Ana. Once over the hill, you can enyoy a beautiful view all all the Santa Ana valley which is commonly called "Valle del Sol" because of its beautiful sunsets.

It's arquitectural jewel is the church built with stones in 1880, it is sorrounded by beautiful gardens and it's truly worth visiting.

The main agricultural product comming out of the Santa Ana valley is onions. You can see onion stands all around the town selling this delicious product to all visitors.

Also, Santa Ana is known for its pottery. Many Costa Ricans travel to Santa Ana to get their plant pots, plates, and other souvenirs made out of the plentiful "Barro de Olla" that is found in this region. Picture taken from the Costa Rica Photo Collection
