Located on the Central Valley about an hour from San Jose The town of Palmares (which means Palm grove) is located on the west part of the Central Valley and is in the province of Alajuela.

The town is known for its yearly festival party "Las Fiestas de Palmares" which are held every year during the month January. 

It has a beautiful stone church built in the 19th century that is worth visiting.

If you visit Palmares, don't forget to go to the "Fory Fay" restaurant, which has a reputation among Costa Ricans of offering excellent and abundant typical food a great prices.
